On 6 October 2026, the Department of Environment (DOE), together with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Lao PDR, convened the Stakeholders’ Engagement Workshop on Methane Inventory Gap Analysis in Lao PDR.

The workshop brought together government agencies and technical partners to review existing methane-related information, identify gaps in emissions data, and discuss ways to strengthen how methane emissions are measured and tracked across the country.

Discussions focused on the initial findings, the proposed approach for gap analysis, and the data needed to improve national methane inventories. Stakeholder feedback will help inform the assessment and identify priorities for strengthening and monitoring methane emissions from priority sectors.

Through the ASEAN–Korea Cooperation for Methane Mitigation (AKCMM) Project, GGGI continues to work closely with the Government of Lao PDR and relevant partners to strengthen methane measurement and support emissions mitigation efforts across agriculture, waste, and energy.

Improving how methane emissions are measured is an important step towards identifying practical solutions and advancing climate action in Lao PDR.
